The island’s trademark is the Navagio (Shipwreck) beach that has been captured in the photos of the many tourists visiting it.
The beach is very dramatic with towering cliffs, golden sand, and turquoise waters. It is only accessible by boat.

The endangered species of caretta caretta and the Mediterranean seal of monachus monachus are natural inhabitants of the Zakynthos seas, laying their eggs in the many beaches of the island.
Zakynthos’s architecture has Venetian influences. Important buildings of the island were affected by the earthquake of 1953, however the city was rebuild with respect to the local architecture.
